With the recent announcement from the Premier Developmental League (PDL) in October 2017, the newest minor league sports addition to Corpus Christi, “The Sharks”, has captured the attention of soccer fans across the Coastal Bend.
With the upcoming season in May 2018, The Sharks had previously announced 2 open tryout dates that took place on November 19th and December 2nd at Butler Soccer Complex.
Both tryouts were successful, bringing together a total of 110 registered participants from around the area. The tryouts consisted of speed and agility drills that ended with a scrimmage to assess and evaluate the players’ talent.
“We have had a great turnout at the tryouts and it’s clear that Corpus Christi has a strong soccer presence,” said Head Coach Sammy Giraldo. “I am confident we will continue to see a high level of competition at the next set of tryouts and I am excited to see continued community support during the next phase of this process.”
The Corpus Christi Sharks are announcing their 3rd and 4th tryout dates set for January 12th ,2018 from 12:00PM to 2:00PM and February 9th, 2018 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at
Butler Soccer Complex, 6654 Yorktown Blvd, Corpus Christi, TX 78414.
Male players who will be 18 years (by June 1, 2018) or older are qualified to participate. A non-refundable $30 fee will be made upon registration online, cost including 1 training t-shirt that will be worn during tryout. There will be no on-site registration, all players must register online on our website. A mandatory check-in will take place at open tryouts and registrations must be completed online 1 day prior to tryout date. Members of the football club will be evaluating the players and providing feedback to the coaches.
For 23 years, the PDL has served as a major development platform for players in North America. More than 550 PDL alums took part in the 2017 Major League Soccer and United Soccer League regular seasons. Among the PDL alumni include 2017 MLS Defender of the Year Ike Opara, 2017 MLS Goalkeeper of the Year Tim Melia and U.S. Men’s National Team members Brad Guzan, Sacha Kljestan and Darlington Nagbe.
